Purple Barley Berries

Grown here on our Alberta farm, our purple barley berries are a whole grain pantry staple. These barley berries are semi-pearled to help improve cooking time while still keeping their whole grain character.

Cook them and use them anywhere you would use rice, in grain bowls, soups, stews, salads or side dishes. Their mild nutty flavour and chewy texture make them an easy way to add something wholesome to everyday cooking.

Purple barley gets its natural colour from anthocyanins (the same antioxidants that give blueberries their colour!). It is also naturally high in fibre, making it a satisfying whole grain choice that brings both flavour and substance to the table.

These barley berries can also be milled into fresh flour for baking, adding beautiful colour and whole grain texture to anything from pancakes and muffins to cookies.
